Getting things to work. (Net & Masq)

Im having troubles getting the net through the gateway. I have 2 interfaces in set as inside and one set as outside.

My outside interface has been given an IP via DHCP from my dsl modem its 192.168.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 - the inside is static on 192.168.1.2 subnet 255.255.255.0

Here is the problem. I cant access the web interface on my modem through  ASL. I have put in the packet filter allow any from inside to outside but no joy. I assume that once I can access the modem, I should be able to surf the web either through proxy or by masquerading.

I can ping the modem from ASL.

Any ideas?

    Agreed, put modem in bridge mode. (However you won't be able to browse to it then typically either, but do you really need to?)

    What sort of modem are you using?

    Couple of suggestions
    - try accessing web with laptop connected directly to modem
    - forget about any masq settings initially and try using http proxy

    PS I messed around with a Dlink DSL-320t for a while trying to put it in 'bridge mode' only to find that it appears to bridge by default!? ie I am getting assigned the ip from the isp in the default 'non-bridge' mode...
