Random Connection Issues

In the beginning ASG 6.2 was installed and all was well or so it
seemed...

Over the last few months I have been trying to figure out why the LAN
keeps getting random disconnects from the internet.

We have checked:
- DSL Modem and wiring
- ISP connectivity
- Hardware issues (ASG, clients and replaced switch)
- Astaro configuration
- Network cabling
- Reviewed Astaro documentation
- etc..

I just cant seem to figure it out.  Every time this happens its seems that
Astaro just stops responding to network requests.

Everyone seems to thinks that it would be best to just bag Astaro and
get a linksys.  I really just want to learn what is misconfigured.

    Silly question time.
    1/. What do the logs show?
    2/. what causes it to start talking again?
    3/. is the ASG providing the PPPoE conversion or is the modem doing it?
    4/. How many interfaces do you have on the ASG
    5/. What is the configuration of your ASG; cpu -memory-disk-nic types?
    6./. how long are the disconnects?

    1) Is it an Astaro ASG appliance, or a machine you've loaded ASG on?  If it's not an Astaro-provided appliance, you could very well be dealing with hardware issues.. particularly with the NICs.  Check out the HCL.  If it is an Astaro Appliance, chances are you have maintenance on it, start a support ticket with Astaro.

    2) look for network loops, etc.. these can cause interfaces to quit responding on any kind of network equipment.

    3) can you console (serial or keyb)  into the unit? is it still running?

    4) Linksys=Blah!  Nowhere near as secure as an Astaro.  We have many installed at customer sites (many Astaro units, that is), and haven't had any stability issues.
