Using 100% of Dual Uplinks with backup routing

Hello Ladies and Gents,

We have two (expensive) leased lines provding 2Meg each for a large office.  I need to deal with links going down and also want to use 100% of both links, on the uplink direction.  I want an Astaro supported solution so WebAdmin-based solutions only.  I have read many articles on dual uplinks and Policy Based Routing for this and believe that this is not possible with Astaro.   I hope this is wrong.  Is it?

An example of this requirement is:

- have two external internet links, LINK1 and LINK2
- want HTTP traffic to default over LINK1
- want FTP traffic to default over LINK2
- If LINK1 is down then HTTP traffic goes over LINK2
- If LINK2 is down then FTP traffic goes over LINK1

My thoughts on this are 
1) An external device (or 2 devices in HA config) to provide backup routing
2) Using multiple routes on ASL

It has to be a supported solution so only using NAT/PolicyBasedRouting/StaticRoutes in WebAdmin.  Is this a "wait for future release" or doable with multiple PBR table entries?    One Astaro suggestion is uplink failover which does not fly.  The other is PBR, but no comment (yet) on whether it will work in the backup scenario. Will update this thread with any further Astaro feedback.

    Hi, Adrien. I've just deployed Novell's branded Astaro distribution on a Proliant DL360 G1, hoping to get what you're attempting. My setup is similar:

    - two broadband links, cable & ADSL
    - some ports are blocked by our cable provider (80, 443, 25), and these services need to go out over DSL
    - cable offers higher bandwidth (3+mbs vs 128Kbps on the uplink), so our standard web server runs on port 81 over cable, as does POP3 on port 110, and incoming SMTP on port 24

    I have two internal NICs in the server and the Compaq dual-NIC card installed for a total of four interfaces. I want to achieve failover of the cable-connected services to DSL, while keeping the DSL-connected services full-time on that link.

    In addition, I want to be able to load balance and provide failover on the LAN with the other pair of interfaces.

    I've reached the same conclusion as you have with regard to being able to distribute traffic and get failover simultaneously (though there is a good getting started doc on distributing traffic via Policy-based Routing ). For the LAN side of my issue, the jury is still out...

    Good luck, and let's keep this thread updated between us (at least) with what progress we make.
