IPS and WAN ip

HI all!
I am having an issue with the IPS. If I set the global settings to my LAN or my ppp0 interface, (eth0) I don't get any anomoly or IPS/IDS detections. If I set the Global settings to (empty list) meaning all data is scanned. I get only intrusion attempts from my own WAN ip to a destination ip (outbound). Are you only supposed to place your LAN (network) internal network ip in the glabal settings list? Or also the DSL (ppp0) eth0 connection as well?
