DHCP breaks communication

Hello,

I am using the DHCP server on the internal interface. When I grap an address, mask, DNS server, gateway, etc, I can no longer get anything through the firewall but if I configure the NIC manually identically everything works.

any help appreciated.

(using Astaro 5.206 home with an XP SP2 client)

Would sound like you are not actually gewtting an IP address assigned by the firewall.
When you run "ipconfig /all" in a "cmd" box what does it display when the intnerface is configured for DHCP.

Done ipconfig /all and I'm getting an address, mask, gateway, dhcp and dns but nothing gets out, yet when I manually configure the nic with the identical values, it works.

It's got me stuffed.

Something totally wrong.
After you do your manual config, do an ipconfig /all copy the results. Then do a DHCP config, do an ipconfig /all copy the results. Then compare the 2.
There has to be a "dot" in the wrong place soemwhere.

I reloaded the OS for an unrelated reason and DHCP is working fine now. Still don't know what happened

Sometimes, on Windows machines in particular, the TCPIP subsystem can become corrupted. This can usually be fixed by opening Network Connections and deleting the Local Area Connection, and then recreating it. Reinstalling the OS should not be nessessary.
