Intrusion Protection won't start

I just installed V6 of ASL, everything seems to be going great. However, when I go to Intrusion Protection -> Settings and attempt to turn it on in the General Settings area, it does not stick. What I mean is that I set the light to green, and then when I do anything else, refresh the page, try to add a network, literally anything, it switches right back to off. Can anyone offer up any suggestions or ideas as to why this is happening and how I can fix it? Thank you.

which browser?  IE caches things weird sometimes..FF and opera can to.  Make sure your browser is set to reload the page one very visit and not by date, expiration, or automatically.

I tried in both IE and FF. I don't have any other browsers to try in. Seems odd though because when I did a test install of ASL earlier, I didn't see this problem. It's almost like something is preventing Intrusion Protection from staying started. If it has something to do with caching, how can I prevent it to see if thats the case?

What are your system specs? Yyou may have insufficient memnory or processor power.  It's entirely possible your installation just went wonky.  Try reinstalling as well.

I've experienced the exact same issue.  However, my system specs are pretty thin (400Mhz P3 with 256MB RAM) so perhaps you're right in that it doesn't start due to limited system resources.  IMHO- the system log should indicate why it didn't start.

Same issue here, new install of ASL6.002, 1GHz PIII, 512MB ram. Any resolution? Unable to find any errors in the logs, tried varous browsers on different management boxes etc.

what do the ips logs say?  They should say something.

Where are the IPS logs located? I see nothing pertaining to IPS in the "Local Logs" section of WebAdmin and the IPS section in "Reporting" shows the graphs but no data recorded which is to be expected. I searched through System Log Messages for any clues but saw nothing obvious.

OK, found the problem. It was a permissions issue on /etc/wfe/conf/ips_settings

Kudos to Anty, see post #60756

You can delete the File ips_settings. Then it will be created with the right permissions. -rw-r--r--  wwwrun nogroup
