higher priority for HTTP

Hello,

my situation is as follows..
Using V5.203, users can only access HTTP/FTP/HTTPS through proxy. 

Many users are using P2P services and they should do so in future.


My question is how can I give HTTP/FTP/HTTPS a higher priority than P2P sharing?
Problem is that P2P often catches most bandwidth so surfing gets quite slow.

I know there´s QoS implemented in ASTARO but it only works if the upload has high load ...


Can someone bring some light in the dark ?

    That's right. Basically QoS works only for outgoing traffic. So you could try to create a packetfilter rule for all P2P traffic and set the rule to LOW. Then set a rule for the proxy. Set this rule to HIGH.
    Incomming traffic can only limited globally. So it's possible to limit the download speed globally to simulate a slower connection, but that's all you can do.

    What else you can try:
    Set the "Uplink Bandwidth" (Webadmin -> Network -> Interfaces) a litte bit lower than then real speed you have. So if you have DSL (1024down/128up), set the "Uplink Bandwidth" to 96 for example. By doing so, the cache on your providers side will stay unused. This leads to a faster sending of ACK packets and so a faster responce of the connection. It might also work for the downlink.
    If you are using a syncronous line (same upload/download speed), this trick might not give better performance.

    Hello Xeno,

    in the meanwhile I set a rule for P2P networking at low prio.

    The link for the http rule points back to this thread.

    Can you correct this please, so that I can see what thread you mean.

    Do selfdefined rules override system rules ´cause access to the proxy is already defined in the http proxy setting page.

    Hm, the link works fine in my browser. It's thread number is 59470.
    Anyway there are a lot of very detailed threads regarding QoS in that UBB. Just use the search function. It should be possible to find a lot of usefull stuff.
