Publishing internal Mail Server

Hi,

I don’t have a document, but I will try to explain it.

1. Go to Definitions -> Networks and create a new Definition:

 Name: Int_Mailserver (only example)

Type: Host

Address: 192.168.0.10 (The IP Address from your Internal Mailserver)
 
2. Go to Proxies –> SMTP and enable it:

3. Hostname (MX): mail.company.com (The Hostname (MX) on which you receive your Mails)

Postmaster Assress: postmaster@company.com (example)

4. At “Domain Groups” on this page click “New domain…” to create a new domain and edit the domain to company.com (your domainname)

5. At “Profiles and domain group assignment” on this page click “New profile…” to create a new and change the “Route target” to Int_Mailserver (example from Step 1)

Now the Astaro SMTP Proxy receives your external emails and forwards it to your internal mailserver. I you have a license for “Secure Email“ Astaro can also scan your mails for viruses and SPAM before it will be forwarded to your internal mailserver.

Maybe you must configure your internal mailserver to accept mail from the internal IP of the Astaro.

For outgoing mails you must configure the internal IP from the Astaro as Smarthost on your mailserver and allow it at Proxies -> SMTP at “Allow relay from:”Int_Mailserver” on the Astaro.

Thank for reply.

I do not want to use  Astaro SMTP Proxy, because i have my mail server is doing content filtering , antivirus and anti-relay.

I have done it this way but not know is the right or not.

1. Create Definitions = mailserver
2. Create NAT/Masquerading DNAT/SNAT service SMTP to mailserver
3. Create Packet Filter Rules to service SMTP to mailserver

Now is running without any problem.

Is this a secure way?

if you don't want to use the Astaro SMTP Proxy you can only enable and configure the Intrusion Protection System (IPS) on the Astaro to improve security.
But I thing that it's much secure to use the SMTP Proxy from the Astaro also you don't enable the Content-, Virus-, SPAM-Protection from Astaro because you don't have a direct connection from the Internet to your internal network
