checkpoint and astaro

Has anyone seen any documents that compare astaro to checkpoint ngai r55? I'm just wondering because we are looking at some new firewalls at work and some of the guys want to go with checkpoint because they heard thats it suppose to be the firewall champ.

    I don't have a point by point comparison; Checkpoint, being as experienced a company as it is, offers some good features. But I gave up on it many years ago, though, since their pricing model was unrealistic.

    Unless your organization is a price-insensitive enterprise, I think you have to not just look at functionality; but, moreover, the cost of that functionality and the likelihood that you will need it -basically. things should be evaluated on a price/preformance basis (as opposed to focusing on either price or performance, alone). I believe Astaro shines when you look at it through a price/performance lens.

    Another thing I didn't like about Checkpoint was their non-linear pricing model. Entry level units were competitively priced, but then as soon as your enterprise would grow and you'd need more interfaces and more licenses, they'd "sock it to you".

    So when you evaluate and price out a Checkpoint solution, also compare the price it will cost to upgrade your organization should it need to grow.
