Network slows then stops

I've had this same problem using IPCop so this isn't just an Astaro thing. I have a ping running against my mail server, I can see the ping slow down and then eventually I stop getting replies. If I reboot Astaro, I'll be fine for a while again. Sometimes several days, sometime just an hour. This is really making me nuts! Anyone have any ideas?

    are you using the same machine for both ipcop and astaro?  If so i would look at your nics.

    Nope, completely different hardware all the way around.

    Is there a very high load on the ASL or on the NICs? See in Webadmin -> Reporting.

    Ahh good call. The only thing out of the ordinary that I found was the concurrent connections graph. It appears to be maxed out all the time, except for short periods right after I reboot Astaro. How can I go about tracking down what box is using all of the connections?

    Aaaargh! I was sure that was it. I found the machine that was hoggin all the connections and disabled the redirects on Astaro that went to it. I had 2 solid hours of basically nothing on the concurrent connections graph. Then the same thing happened. Ok, so let me add a bit more detail to this.

    Looking at the reports, I can't see anything that is pegged except for very brief spikes every once in a whiile. When the network goes away, I don't get any errors from my pings, the window just stops showing replies. When I reboot Astaro, i get destination unreachable while it's down and then they pick right back up. While the network is not working, ping does't work and I can't hit web pages, but my VPN to work keeps humming right along, so obviously some traffic is still flowing. This is all very confusing.

    I've got it sorted out. i though I had everything shut off the the bad box, but didn't. Now I have a different problem, but that's another post.
