Default Gateway?

I am trying to figure out what my default gateway should be? Should it be the gateway that the ISP provides me? (I am connecting one internal network to the internet).  I can ping  external nic on the firewall from an address on the private network but I cannot ping the gateway(ie. the ISPs gateway) Everything seems great internaly but I can't get to the internet?

    In most situations your network configuration should have only one default gateway.

    The external network connected to your ISP should have the only one.  Make sure the default gateway on this interface is defined as the default gateway your isp told you about.

    The other interfaces should in all likelihood be set to "none" as the default gateway.

    if you want your private network to access the internet -> then your astaro should  be entered in the network config of your clients as gateway.

    don't forgett the masquerading and packet filter rules ;-)

    That is the way I have it setup. My next guess is that I need to reset the cable modem once it is plgged up to the firewall. Thanks, I will look at it more this weekend.

    I am not 100% clear on the masquerading rule. I read the docs but I am not sure how I should use it. Do you just masq. your internal network to the external network?

    if you want your internal network to access the internet then - yes.
    and you also need a packet filter rule to allow the traffic from internal network to somewhere

    Many of us are unsure of the convention from time to time if we haven't worked on the 'wall for a while; fortunately, you hit the question mark on that page of the webadmin and they have a straightforward example to guide you through it...

    ok, this is killing me. It still is not working. I think I have everything configed correctly but still no go. I have my "internal" net. masqueraded to the "externel" net. I have a ip filter to allow all "internal" network traffic out to the "external" net. My machine on the "internal" network can ping the "DMZ", "Internal", and "External" interfaces. Yet, I still can't ping the default gateway on the external network (ip *.137). I am using the ip the ISP gave me. The clients on my "internal" network are configed via DHCP which I setup to use the internal address as the DNS and Gateway per the Astaro docs. Basically, I can't tell that anything is leaving my astaro box? Any ideas?

    On the machine you're pinging from on the inside: have you set Astaro to your gateway?

    Have you tried pinging the external gateway using the webadmin's ping under "Tools"?
