setting up vlan switch

I'm getting ready to put in a layer 3 switch where I will be setting up vlans. I was reading through the astaro version 5 manual and it sates that the nics must have a vlan tag capable driver. I've nerver heard of such how can you tell if your nic has a vlan capable driver? I'm using all 3com nics 3c905 mainly. If the 3coms can't do it which nics should I be buying?

    I´m using a similar scenario with a Cisco switch - it does not work properly with "my" 3Com NICs using the driver "3c95x" of ASL.

    Some time ago I found a page that mentioned a "bug" within the 3Com drivers and that there has to be a patch to be added to fix the issue with VLANs (AFAIR the frame size is not corrected).
    Since I had no time lately to check if VLANs would work with another NIC I "live" with the fact that my bandwith isn´t 100Mbit because of wrong packets...

    Because of my experience I´d advice to use only the NICs that are marked "t" in the HCL.

    IIRC, 3Com has not been very supportive of the linux drivers, so their quality is inferior compared to Intel drivers, etc...
