Configure ASL for e-mail server FAQ?

I am beginning to think that I am too dumb to live! I have been battling with installing an e-mail server on the DMZ interface for a number of days and still do not have any mail flowing. I was wondering if there was a FAQ or some such that explains this process from beginning to end (rather than the bits and pieces that I have been able to find)? Thanks in advance,

    It depends, if you want to use the smtp proxy or just use a DNAT to forward all smtp traffic to your mail server. You find further instruction in the knowledge base at www.astaro.com/kb. There you will also find the manual with instructions how to configure the smtp proxy or DNAT.

    If you are already using the SMTP-Proxy, have a look into the SMTP-log. Also the SMTP-Log of your mailserver should help you. SMTP-logs normally are very usefull and easy to read. Maybe you will find something like "relaying denied" or "temporary failure". Also it's important to know, if emails are stored in the spool of you mailserver or if email are not accepted at all.
    If you have a line of the log which you think could be interesting, please copy and paste the line into the search option of this UBB. Put the whole line into quotation marks. If you will find nothing, feel free to paste it into this thread.
