web problem

OK, I believe my DNATS/SNATS are set up correctly to port 8383 and my internal ip (thats wut my webserver runs on), and i have allow rules to match those.  That works great from the outside.  But 1 of the websites DNS is being hosted outside of my network, therefore it resolves to my WAN ip address.  When i try to browse to the webpage internally , i get the page cannot be displayed error after about 10 seconds.  How do I allow my pc's on the inside to  to browse from my outside ip to internal servces?  They need to apply the DNAT/SNAT and packet rule.  I've tried several different packet rules, all to no avail. This did work with a Linksys router, prior to changing to astaro.  Any ideas? [:S]

    Run your own internal DNS server, forwarding external queries to the ISP and add the private numbers of internal hosts (a.k.a., "Split DNS"); or add the entries to Astaro if you can deal with a non-graphical means of doing so. See:

    Whenever you do things like this, you will have to be responsible for your mistakes...

    One other option: set up a Hosts file with the private numbered definitions on a server; include that file from the server in everybody's hosts file (a sort of poor man's DNS). When you use your own DNS and DHCP, it's much easier to deploy than this method.

    Well, I considered allowing my internal server to host the zone, also, but I really didnt want to have to do that.  Is it not possible to do what I'm asking without hosting the zone internally as well as externally?  I would think that there are others out there who do this exact thing.  It seems rather cumbersome to have to administer 2 DNS zones. [:(]

    SecApp, thx for all the input, but is this just not possible to do then?  If it is not, I feel that it should be.  But, oh well.  I'm gonna go ahead and host a zone for that locally as well.

    I'm a little confused about your post....
    Do you have an internal DNS server or not?
    Do you go to the website based on a FQDN (www.company.com) or an IP?
    Do you have some hostheaders defined on your webserver?

    domain1.com is my internal domain name and DNS is local (as well as external, I did not want my server to have to deal with all the external DNS requests, so that is not an issue).  Domain2.com's DNS is external.  I use host headers on my webserver to differentiate between the 2, so I HAVE to use FQDN to acces the websites, otherwise I only get domain1.com's website.  So any DNS lookups for domain1.com are resolved to my internal webserver's ip address, but DNS lookups for domain2.com resolve to my WAN ip.  I did go ahead and add a zone for domain2.com to my local DNS server, so it now also resolves requests to my internal ip.  I just wanted to know if it was possible to set up some rule so I didnt have to have 4 DNS zones to configure for only 2 domains.  I figure it must be possible somehow.  It's fine if doing domain2.com internally as well is my only option, but I was just thinking there must be someway to allow browsing to the FQDN for domain2.com internally without having to do this. 

    When I set the domain up over 2 years ago, I wasn't aware that it was always better to have a separate internal domain name (i.e domain.local), but lets say I did, I would have had to have 3 zones setup then for domain1.com alone. 1 for internal domain1.local requests, 1 for internal domain1.com requests and 1 for external domain1.com requests, which seems rather cumbersome.  I thought it should be possible to allow ASL to allow internal lookups for domain1.com to be handled externally, resolving to the WAN ip, and allowing internal traffic to talk like that.  I guess the only way around that truly would be to have the webserver for domain1.com and domain2.com reside on a DMZ with external IP addresses behind the firewall, but alas, I only have 1 IP so that is not an option.  Whew! I know it's long, but I hope it makes sense now.
