My ASL box currently has two NICs installed.  One internal, one external.  I manage 20 webservers inside our network ( Private IPs) and have added an additional ethernet interface for each one of them to the one physical card designated as EXTERNAL. So, thats over 20 different, functional PUBLIC addresses assigned to one NIC.  Works fine.

Have you ruled out a DNS issue?

I am using the Windows 2000 DNS server in Active Directory Interated mode to provide resolution for my local networks.  

I am running a stand-alone DNS program ( Simple DNS Plus) on one server inside the network to keep track of my public IP addresses.  I have the appropriate SNAT/DNAT & Packet filter rules setup to pass any outside DNS requests to this machine.  When I create a new additional IP address on the outside NIC, I just update Simple DNS Plus and within a few hours that new child domain / IP address is responding and functional.

Anyay, you do not need any additional hardware.  Just add an additional ethernet interface to your outside NIC and update the DNS appropriately.

This was working with mulltiiple publics on one adapter as aliased.   Peopl were telling me above to try a second nic so I ded.  Not working.   I really am suspecting something up at the isp end but Have not proven that yet.   I am going directly to the IP so I am bypassing DNS issues at current.

Try removing extra NIC and adding a Virtual interface to EXT nic.

That's what I started with.  

I'm going to put a box  on another public IP and test from external back in to prove that it's not astaro.

I think I have more information
From a 3rd public ip on my same subnet as my one's on the asatro box I can ping the ips's and port redirects work.   From outside this subnet, from other locations they do not work.   However, I can ping my 3rd ip and it works so it's back to something unique with having multiple I's bound up on the same nic.   I guess I can put a router in place and redirect the couple ports I'm looking for to get rid of the problem but it's wierd.

Maybe it's something wierd with arp tables in the router upstream.

On my cablemodem, I have to powercycle it everytime I change what it's plugged into (Astaro, PC, router, whatever) to clear the arp cache.

Wait. Are you trying to access your external IP from inside your network?
ASL has a problem with this. Anytime you want to test external access through your ASL box, you need to check it from another internet connection or be behind a router (like a linksys), it "bounces" your traffic back to the external interface and appears as though it originated at the router.

From a external address, I am trying to test smpt, dns, and other port rediredcts.   Does not work on any virtual nic execpt the primary one with the gateway.  

I have put a PC on another public IP, but within my public subnet and it can talk to both address just fine.   I have tried with 1 nic and with 2 niics.  The problem really appears to be upstream from  but I don't know where.

what about ping?

I switched ISP's and now I can ping both addresses externall.  Note, I could not before.

How did you set up the default routing on the ASL box. A problem may be that ASL accept only a single default gateway, and you are not able (or at least me without hacking) to set up a Routing for multiple uplinks/providers. Basically if you get two external link you sould get the traffic coming to link A back routed to link A and the traffic from link B routed back to link B (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Adv-Routing-HOWTO/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html) and this can not be set up over the webadmin.
