Problem with D/NAT "from the inside" ..

I've created a NAT rule for an internal webserver, situated on the same internal network as the workstation. It works from the outside, from internet - but if I try to connect to the webserver from the local network, it doesn't work.

I need to be able to have users on the internal network connect to the webserver using the external name; why doesn't that work?

Internal net is 192.168.100.*, and externally we have a /25 network, one of which is an "additional IP address" on the external NIC of the astaro firewall. Is it impossible to "bounce" on the to the same internal NIC?

When I try ping , I get replies, from  address of the webserver, something else that's weird.

  • That's not going to work.

    You have to run a modest forwarding DNS on your LAN to which you can add the entry of the internal IP (this technique is called "split DNS"), or add entries to your workstations' Hosts/LMhosts files.

    Someday we will hopefully be able to add entries to Astaro's DNS proxy; until then, do that...
  • u allso can enter an "quik and dirty" masq rule:
    like:
    masq internal network-> internal interface.

    that should do the job.
