System requirements for gigE lan

hondaman
i have dsl coming in, and a gigE lan with a box in a DMZ.  How much horsepower would I need for the f/w to be able to transfer files to/from the DMZ through the f/w without the f/w being the bottleneck?  I know what astaro's min specs are, but I am looking for people who have done the tried and true method: experimenting.

    true wirespeed devices almost always have bespoke hardware designed with this in mind.


    hopefull someone will have a case study for you but in the absence of such I would just through huge resources at it.

    Pay particular attention to memory speed and amount. Also make sure you are using the latest and greatest processor.

    But keep in mind the feature set you activate will play the biggest part. Some features like IDS need to reconstruct packets to make sure they are safe. As such there is a delay that is unavoidable but a delay does not equal loss of capacity... its just a delay.[;)]
