ASL V4 - QoS Determine Link BW Setting?

Is there any magic to determining the correct Link  Bandwidt setting for QoS  in ASL V4?

I did some speed tests from various sites prior to enabling QoS to arrive at a real world upload Bandwindth of 505Kbits/sec

To achieve this same result with QoS enabled I had to set the Link BW setting to 525.

My unshaped is at 200.

Things seem to be working fine.. My VoIP service never misses a beat regardless of what I am doing on upload...

How do the rest of you QoS types arrive at your settings?

    nopers..a rule of thumb i have seen is set your maxmimum upload at 85-90% of your rated speed.  However as this can vary wildly the best thing is multiple speed tests to see what you are actually getting.

    But doesn't that leave bandwidth unused?

    I want everything I can get and leaving  15% on the table isn't desirable.

    Perhaps I don't understand how this really works.
