netbios over VPN doesn ´t work

Hello,

let me explain my scenario.
I have a network at home and my friend has a network at his home.
Both networks are connected via DSL. To communicate to each other we use a NEt-to-NET IPsec connection which is established.
We bove allow ANY traffic from network A to network B and visa versa.

When the Windows XP Clients want to see the other clients on the remote network it doesn´t work.
I opened up network neighbourhood and started searching for computer. His main computer is named "Rudi" and mine "Alex"
But we cannot find them over netbios. Only searching over IP the client gets visible.

What´s wrong? Paketfilter shows nothing dropped?

    Alasc the problem comes from the netbios broadcasts not being routed acrost.  there's a few ways to trick windows into seeing the other PCs Wins for Example if you have a server, editing your host file worked well the last time I played with it "C:\Windows\System32\Driver\Etc\Hosts"

    I thought about it! Sure ... few "days" ago I can remember i learned it at school.
    OK, I gave my clients a WINS entry. But how can I define my NT Domain called "VOLTA" 

    That´s the major thing we want to do. The remote Clients on the network of my friend should become members of my domain. 

    Is it just an entry in lmhosts like

    192.168.2.1         VOLTA

    What version of NT are you running ?

    Using WINS to define a domain in Win2K and Win2k3 define it as a new Static Mapping-Type-Domain Name

    Add the correct IP address and NT4 friendly names.

    if you both use domain controller, you have to set up a relationship between these two domains. depending on the version of windows server you use, the how-to is quite different. if you just use wins, you have to enter a static entry. just add the name and address of the other networks wins server. also here, depending on your windows version, the config is different.

    It is just 1 Domain called "VOLTA"
    Server ist Samba 2.2.8

    What must I define that the XP Client on the remote Net can find the Domain "VOLTA" when I want this machine to Domain?
    That´s my last problem. Other things work quite well

    if you have a wins server for this domain, config his address in all clients that should use it. this way they get registered themselfes and have a place to look for the other ips.

    my SAMBA does wins-support
    Do you know if it is possible that the clients configured with wins update the lmhosts on the SAMBA themselves?
    For now I just set up the table by hand

    hmm... i dont know anymore how samba works as server. actually it should keep an own database about the registered hosts. neither the hosts nor lmhosts files should be needed. as long as you configure the wins address in the clients. wins by definition is more than only a name resolver. a starting system normaly registers itself to the wins server and therefore creates or updates a host entry.
