Poor throughput perfomance over MASQ

Hello,

I've been experiencing the following problem.
I am using asl for masq between my home network and my dsl provider, over a pppoe interface. 
With this setup I get very poor throughput perfomance (something like, 5kB/s on a 384kbps ).
Moreover I have lots of logdropped packets...

i am running asl 4.021 on a pentium200mmx with 256mb ram,

Any ideas?

    What is your MTU set to on your External interface?
    MTU default for Ethernet is 1500, but for your PPoE connection you may have to use a lower maximum packet size. I am on an ADSL connection, and my MTU  (Maximum Transmit Unit) is 1492.

    ASL will log drop a lot of stuff by default.
    When you create filter rules that drop (not log drop) the { netbios } stuff, a lot of what you now see in your kernel and filter logs will disappear, and the daily log files will be much smaller.

    It looks like my pppoe interface has an MTU value of 1492...
    I don't think though that it would be a wise idea to change kai ethenet's MTU to 1492 too, since it will mesh up things for the third interface. 

    Any (more) ideas on this?
