Newbie: Using QOS and bandwidth control

Hi,

I am assumming that QOS is in effect the same as limiting bandwidth. I have a firewall with a friend hooked up in my DMZ. His IP address is 192.168.200.11 I have a 128kbps connection to the internet and would like to limit the amount of bandwidth that is available to him to 32kbps. Over and above that if I am using all of my 96kbps and need more I would like to prioritze my bandwidth and use some of his.

Can somebody advise me on how to do this?

    QOS only controls outgoing traffic...you can use the internel help for a good description of QOS and also checkout http://docs.astaro.org

    I do not really understand this, so if a computer inside the network initiates the outbound connection then can I assume that any traffic going out and in from this PC will have QOS, or is it only the traffic going out?

    Is there anyway to implement QOS on inbound connnections?

    No.

    You can not control the traffic shaping on packets that you receive. Only the sender can do that. You do not have any control over what traffic others send to you. You can therefore only shape the traffic that your site sends out.

    This is perfectly adequate for installations that use ADSL, since the outbound bandwidth on ADSL is always less than the inbound bandwidth, and it is the outbound channel that is the limited resource that needs management.
