SIP

Just wondering if there was any idea when Astaro might support SIP.

I need to use a "Softphone" to make VoIP calls, and currently need to have box outside the firewall in order to achieve this, which, obviously I don't like.

    SIP implementation will happen I think.  (Trying to remember exactly what ASL staff said).  In summary I think SIP is on the development roadmap, but with no current release date scheduled ?

    Hi Simon,

    wrong path - noone from Astaro told you something about SIP coming soon but it may be you meant that someone mentioned that it is noted on the feature wishlist - that means nothing until an official roadmap for coming versions is availbale.

    seems that there is a misunderstanding - too bad. O.K. I have to apologize!
    SIP is one of many nice features  listed on the     feature wishlist !

    Uhm .. I was pretty sure that I did get a reply for about one year ago.. but now I can't find it..

    Oh well..

    SIP is a very big issue today, since it seems like H-323 is "loosing ground"

    I know this a debatable issue, but since I want to hande approx 10000 PSTN number via SIP astaro is no longer an issue for me  If I cant use it [:(]  

    That's to bad, becase I like Astaro alot, and was hoping that it would have gotten the SIP support I asked for one year ago.

    If I ask again, if SIP support is planned can the Astaro guys give me an approx. date when a feature like that will be released ?

    I think I'm not the only one who wants that feature.

    There are SIP devices with TLS that can sit outside the firewall; unfortunately they're still too big and pricey. Maybe somebody will eventually come out with more affordable ones in the months ahead. Until Astaro does it, the only other option is to implement your own; you could start with Asterisk's...

    SIP support is a requirement for me as well, to be high on the wishlist. 

    Without it, for the time being, successfully experimenting with SIP clients (kphone, Cisco 7640 with SIP firmware) that use STUN for NAT traversal and symmetric signalling/media port addresses. This requires opening of a (small) range of outgoing UDP ports for RT(C)P traffic in ASL, besides 5060/udp & /tcp for SIP.
