MS Messenger and Webcam - Access

Hello!

To run the MS Messenger v5.0 behind the firewall, I configured the socks v5. The MS Messenger will run with that correctly ... but ...

When I will start in a Messenger-session (-chat) the webcam, the connection will not start. I tryed to open much ports. But I don´t find the right ports, which I do need.

Have anybody more experience with "webcam-chat" and ASL? Do anybody want to try this together with me?!

Doesnt work to give you the short answer.

Chat via MSN requires uPNP capable firewall, which Astaro doesn't yet support.

I have managed to get this working between offices but only because the remote offices have an IPSEC VPN between them.

Basically NAT is killing your voice chat.

You should be able to use text chat but that's about it.

Personally I hope they don't put uPNP into ASL... That can be bad news.... I had that on my Linksys and just shut it down..

nod UPNP allows any appliation to open up ports/protocols at any time without notifying you..frankly that is why I installed Astaro..I want control over that behavior.

Yes uPNP is nasty. I don't want to have to use it but MS makes so many tools staff love to use that need uPNP. Boss wants everyone using MSN to talk with clients. (Since most people seem to have MSN installed.)

Does anyone know of any other app than MSN that works safely through ASL and allows voice and video coms ?
If I can find one widely in use I'll use it instead.

We can't be forcing customers to use something uncommon.

I sure I have used MSN Messenger ver. 6.0 with it's webcam and audio working using ASL.
set msn to use a sock version 4, and have a firewall rules to allow internal network to tcp 1863 and 9000:9500.

But I have not used it for a while....When I get a chance I will check that it still works

Can you please provide some more specific explanation on how you did configure socks4 with firewall rules to enable voice with MSN Messenger 6

HI , I've been a bit busy with my pop proxy problem.... I'll see if I can find someone to do a video/voice chat tonight...... And post resaults one way or the other.

Sorry I'cant get it to work now, it was a while a go and I was testing a few different firewalls at the time (checkpoint Small Business)...Or maybe it was just a fluke [:)]
