I have a small network with asl-4.008 as my firewall. The asl box has 2 nics – both realtek 8139s. I have a cisco 678 dsl router going to the firewall which goes to a linksys befw11s4 v.2 wireless router set up as basically a bridge. I have a basic int->ext masq setup and an http dnat rule going to a win server 2003 box as the networks main server. The asl box does the dhcp and there is a static mapping for the win 2k3 machine.
When I first set everything up it worked perfectly for about an hour. Then I started having random packet loss.
Some pages consistently load, and always did, none of which seem to have anything in common. Google, this forum, an https page, an .edu page. Most pages/external ips have major packet loss - 70 - 90%. Then some of these will miraculously
start working. An example is access to the astaro box through the external ip. It wasn’t working and now it loads instantly. I don’t know why. As for the win 2k3 box, it’s the only thing I can think of which may be troubling everything - although adding and removing roles from this machine doesn’t do anything in regards to this problem. Right now it is configured as a file server, application server and active directory domain controller. I removed active directory to simplify things with no luck (although it’s back now). When I installed the asl box, this machine was the dhcp and dns server, but I removed these roles. The other machines on the network all point to the asl box for dhcp.
If I’m missing anything please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated.
