In short: 60-70% Packet loss with asl 3.2, none with 2.0
Detailed:
For more than a year I was using an old PI - 100 box with Astaro 2.0 on it... Pretty basic setup with 3 NICs (1 for DMZ, internal net and www) - just only for doing the masquerading and the redirecting of the services to the box in the DMZ.
Now I wanted to upgrade Astaro... therefore i got an Compaq Celebris FX with 200 Mhz. Unfortunately it has got a P1 Processor -> what means: no Astaro 4 but 3.2 should work. Next Problem was that the CD is not really booting in that one (must be a problem with the bootimage, because a simple Win98 bootdisc worked :-)) -> I solved this with the cool hint using loadlin.exe and a standart bootdisc.
So I installed 3.209 and NO PROBLEMS so far...
Then I set the box up as well known before: Just NATing the internal net outside, set the packetfilter wide-open etc. I set it up as basic as possible... what means no proxies, static routes, ICMP blocking or playing around with the filters.
Now check this out: I could reach the computers in the www - BUT hell slowly.
When pinging I found out that I have packet losses of 60-70%...
Any ideas?
