My email won't go out the firewall.

Hi everyone,

Just when I thought I have everything configured comes another problem. The issue is with sending
email to the internet.

I am able to receive email from anyone from the internet but they don't get my reply.

I have set two email accounts to receive my "System was restarted" notification to be sent to my internal mail server and Yahoo account which works just fine. But emails coming from my internal mail server doesn't go out to the internet.

My guess is the problem lies between my mail server and ASL. Has anyone ran into this before?

Any suggestion or comments is greatly appreciated.

    I guess you can access the net from the mail server box ?
    How is Astaro configured ? I guess you are MASQ'ing ?  Have you setup packet filter to allow mail traffic out on port 25 ?

    Some more info and a 'mud map' showing your network setup would be useful.

    Here's a brief summary of my configuration:

    WebServer
    - yes, I can see the internet via ASL
    - yes, the internet see my web server via ASL

    MailServer
    - no, I can't reply message to the internet
    - yes, I can receive message from the internet

    I'm not using NAT or packet rules for SMTP. I'd chose to use the SMTP Relay instead.

    There is a configuration in ASL which you can specify allowed network for "Outgoing Mail". I happend to chose, out of desperation, eth0_interface, eth0_Network, localnet, Private_Network_192.168.0.0 just to see if that helps...apparently it didnt.

    I am using Sendmail for my mail server, btw. Is there any settings I have overlooked in either Sendmail or ASL?

    Well, for those whose running a sendmail behind their ASL, if you run into the same problem, see the following:

    Hint:  SMART_HOST

    I will not tell you more. You need to search this for yourself as I did. This is how we learn, isn't?

    Glad you answered your own question.  My guess would have been the same.  I'll also guess that the problem is that you can't sent SMTP past the ISP.  This isn't a firewall issue at all and is a port block put up by the ISP, common these days.  You just Smart Host to the ISP mail server and off you go.  BTW, we're hoping for SmartHost as an option in  ASL itself (SMTP proxy) sometime.  Right now you have to manually add it.
