Minimum port range for PASV connections

Hi

Can someone tell me, maybe from their experience, what is the minimum of ports i have to forward for PASV ftp connections to a ftp server to make the pasv connection working ok?

Will a pasv mode connection work if there are ex. only 4 ports in the pasv range?

    I imagine it depends on how many connections you'll have.  I easily have 5-10 going at a time so to save headaches I blocked out 3500-4000 as my PASV port range.  

    Not sure if it helps, but it's something.   [;)]

    That depends on the number of clients you want to be able to handle. Since FTP data connects tend to "hang" sometimes, I'd use at least 100 ports even for a very small server.

    Doesn't your FTP server allow you to specify the PASV port range? Mine does. I set the range and then forward those ports in ASL. I keep 5 ports open (Very low use server). I may step up to 10 if I start getting performance issues.

    thx guys the replies has helped me.

    well i've asked this question for my home enviornment. In business i use astaro. At home i got only a cheap zyxel router/firewall which is only able to forward a maximum of 6 ports...so i forward 1 port for ftp, 1 for vnc...and therefore i have a maximum of 4 port to use for forwarding for pasv range.
