Astaro and a Cisco2950-24 Switch- VLAN question??

Hello,

This may be off topic- ( probably is ) But I have an Astaro Firewall routing a Class C to my internal network and the current Linksys (Temporary Switch) is starting to die on me. So,, I bought a Cisco2950-24 switch (managed obviously) and I had a question. Since the Cisco wants at least one VLAN (and I am not routing to the switch with another Cisco) Should I just specify the whole class C within that VLAN and then put all of the ports on the switch within that one VLAN? Then technically any of those ports could be the uplink to the Astaro and all of my workstations would route out to internet (Granted I set the default gateway on the switch-> Which would be the Astaro's Ethernet interface.

Well,, any help would be greatly appreciated ;-)

    cisco 2950 is Layer 2 Switch..so it has nothing todo with your internal Routing.
    All the ports are in VLAN1 by default.
    The IP_Address and the Gateway on the switch is only for Switch-Management purpose.
    Set the Astaro internal Interface as your defgw for the users.
    If you want to manage the switch via VPN from outside you can set a defgw to the astaro inside interface aswell.

    Cisco TIP: set spantree-portfast on all client ports on the switch, so the switchports will forward much faster when connecting. 2secs instead of 40secs ...(Spanning Tree ALg.)
