unstable client connection arp -d helps??

I've a odd problem in my XP workstation:

Every now and then the traffic to the firewall stops. So browsing does not work anymore, yahoo logs off, news robot stops etc.

A arp -d in a command box does the tric, after doing so i'm able to use all services again.

What's happening here?

    Ok the blame was totally on me.
    The arp trick did ring a bel, after setting a static mapping on the dns server all was fine...

    Investigation showed we did remove 2 out 3 cables from the old firewall, but the lan interface was still connected, while the nic having the same ip as the new firewall.
