Post-install/qmail problem

I just installed ASL, and successfully connected to Up2Date. However, I get an error message in qmail trying to send a message to asl.domain.de.

I know this was the default domain, but I have changed it. I cannot find this address in order to change it. What can I do? The message is:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at fw.marshap.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

If you're running ASL 2.x, log in to the web GUI, and select System, Settings.

The "notification" section is where you need to make the change - this is the email address that admin notices will be sent to... patch installation, port-scan attempts, etc.

It had already changed the default (asl@domain.de) to the appropriate address(larrym@marshap.com). That's what is confusing me.

I believe it's 2.024. I got this from the e-mail messages resulting from the update.

Right. I've just built a new ASL box for my sister, and had the same problem... and found the solution.

Under the Network, Interfaces section of the admin GUI, there is a sub-section for "Local Host" where you defince the gateway and hostname for the ASL machine - the default hostname is "asl.domain.de" and should be changed to something that exists (I use a DynDNS name).

If one does not have a registered domain name, what should be here then to avoid this error.

The rejection is generated by the mail server that ASL alerts are being send to, as it tries to verify the existence of the originating domain... and asl.domain.de doesn't exist!

You can enter the ASL box's external interface IP address into this field and it should work ( although hostnames from DynDNS are free...)

If, however, you're using DHCP client on the external NIC, then I suspect you're screwed.

Well, it could... but you'd need to use a service like DynDNS (free, see above), and determine a way of automatically sending them updates... which may be possible, as I seem to recall a Perl script for doing exactly that on their website.

It will be some actual work to make it all happen, but perhaps someone in the Beta/Hacker forum has already succeeded, and can give you less nebulous instructions...
