Ping against CISCO3640/LinuxBox

Hi, folks,
I build a small firewall (asl 2.016) by using
DNAT for http and https. When i use a LinuxBox
as test-gateway for my intranet and make a PING on it, it is ok: i get connections
Otherwise using a CISCO3640 (FrameRelay) as the
gatway, i get no answer on a ping and no connection.
Another LAN-Box get an answer on a ping.
Where i have to look for, to solve the problem?

Something you might want to check into is that the Cisco box is configured to accept ICMP. Chances are that is disabled by default and does not accept or forward those types of packets.

Uups, is there a different behaviour by pinging
of an asl- and linux-box against cisco ?

No, a ping is a standard packet transfer, all pings should in theory be the same. To further that, ASL is running on Linux and depending on your distribution might even be the same exact program on both.

mkluempen,

do you ping directly from the firewall or
a from a host behind it?
In second case the router would need a static
route to your "internal" LAN to reach the host.
You also can solve this if you masquerade the
internal addresses to the external interface of
your firewall.
