Is there a simple, step-by-step (idiot) guide to configuring the network as follows?

Single static IP address (Home DSL Line)
E-Smith server internally managing DHCP
   "       "   providing e-mail services
   "       "   providing web content

I'd like to put the firewall server up front, hand the E-Smith box off of it, and simply reconfigure the internal IP address for the E-Smith server.  The system works fine, but potential penetration of the system is a real concern.

Hi,

You may want to consider a different product if you find Astaro above your knowledge level.  I personally consider Astaro an enterprise product that is geared towards people who understand firewall concepts and terms.  Astaro is a great product, but it simply may be overkill for your needs if you are going to be the administrator.  After playing around with several firewall products over the past year, here is the line up that I recommend:

Smoothwall - www.smoothwall.org
Single Public IP (Static, DHCP, DSL, PPPoE) - Very simple to setup, well documented, will work on a fast 486 with a 200MB HD.

Mandrake Single Network Firewall - www.linux-mandrake.com
Single Public IP (Static, DHCP, DSL, PPPoE) - A bit more robust, wants a Pentium and a 500MB HD.

Astaro Security Linux
Enterprise level product.  Use this if you are dealing with multiple public IPs and are considering products from WatchGuard, Checkpoint, and Symantec.

Also for what you describe, consider some of the router/gateway boxes out there.  They can be had for as little as $100USD and would probably cover your needs.
