Packet Filtering SMTP and POP3

Hello,

I can not seem to enable packet filtering correctly to allow SMTP and POP3 traffic.

Internal - 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0
External - 216.158.41.0 /255.255.255.0

I am trying to enable Pop3 and SMTP to send and receive mail through the outlook client with no success. 

For SMTP I inserted the following:

From (Client): Public Network 216.158.41.0
Services: SMTP
To (Server): Private Network 192.168.1.0
Action: Allow

I have tried multiple setting changes and I am unable to scan port 25.  Additionally, I have portscan detection disabled and have masqueraded my External Nic to my Private Network.

What am I missing?

    Ok, if you don't have an internal email server then why would you want to accept smtp inside your network?

    I am missing what you are trying to do I think. 

    Please try to explain again to me what you want to do.

    Do you want to make requests FROM your internal network...like to get mail?

    I am sorry about the confusion.

    All I want to do is to be able to send and receive mail on an external mail server.  I have tried so many configs with allowing pop3 requests out and smtp in.  

    I am applying packet filtering rules and also trying this with DNAT.  Can someone give me exact settings? This will help me in reference to many services that I want to enable.

    Your rules should be something like this:

    From (Client)  Service  To (Server)  Action
    Internal       POP3     Any          Allow
    Internal       SMTP     Any          Allow

    with Internal (network) defined as:

    Name      IP address   Subnet mask
    Internal  192.168.1.0  255.255.255.0

    Masquerading should be done as:

    Internal (network) -> External (interface)

    not the other way round.

    Masquerade your internal network to your external interface.

    Remove any DNAT Entries for POP or SMTP ports.  For a rule, to test, allow ANY ANY ANY ANY... wide open.

    I have been trying this for weeks and can not get it to work.

    Running a Linksys 4 port hub with a DSL Modem.

    I can not seem to get programs like Outlook and other port specific programs to work. Here are my detailed settings: 

    Networks:I added 192.168.2.0/24 & 216.158.41.0/24

    Proxies/Http: Enabled
    Transparent: Disabled
    Allowed Networks: Private 192.168.2.0/24

    Proxies/DNS: Enabled
    Interfaces to listen on: Internal Nic?
    Allowed Networks: Private 192.168.2.0/24

    Masquerading   rivate 192.168.2.0/24 ----> Extern Nic

    Packet Filtering:
    From (Client): Any
    Service: Any
    To (Server): Any
    Action: Allow

    The only thing I can get working is internet access. Additionally, I have swapped out about 6 nic cards in experimenting and have done over 20 reinstalls  [:(]
