Excessive timeout connect POP3 Server

I have installed a tree way firewall with 3 nic (internet, dmz, lan).
The connection to POP3 server or IMAP on DMZ from LAN or Internet is too high (approximately 8 sec.)
Why the problem?

    hi,

    maybe the problem is IDENT
    if you connect to a pop3 or imap server this server tries to connect to your client using ident (do you have blocked IDENT entries in your logs ?). to avoid this you could allow IDENT (possible - but not very good idea) or reject IDENT. this will also cause entries in your fw-logs, but the client will connect much faster.
