Sure, you can use ASL as a router. Just allow traffic to flow over all interfaces without restrictions.
Keep in mind though, that it requires you to use static routes only. There are no BGP, OSPF or similar "intelligent" routing protocols that helps you automate routes.
In Norway we've got a saying "Shooting sparrow with a cannon", meaning that using ASL only as a router would be no less than overkill.
I'd rather recommend setting up trinux - http://www.trinux.org or some other floppy based linux distribution instead. (Trinux website seems to be offline btw...)
