Just downloaded the astaro firewall and have been experimenting with it. It appears to me that the routing tables don't get setup in the correct order. Here is the problem.
The extern interface is defined with address a.b.c.d/24 but there is also network e.f.g.0/24 having gateway e.f.g.h on it.
Therefore in the routing table I setup an interface route for e.f.g.0/24 on eth1 (extern) and designate e.f.g.h as the default gateway.
If I do this then the default gateway does not appear in the routing table. However if I instead designate some (ficticious) default gateway of a.b.c.k then a default route is established in the routing table.
This leads me to the conclusion that the default gateway is setup *before* the static routes therefore making it impossible for the "route" command to find a path to gateway e.f.g.h!
To prove this I can login to the box and by hand add the default route e.f.g.h and have it work (since the static route is now properly setup).
