Help with alias please

Hi all,

I try to configure an IP alias on my external interface, but once configure the firewall cut any connection :-)) Suspecting a netmask problem. Here what I'm doing

External real IP 1.2.3.2/255.255.255.0
External Gateway IP 1.2.3.1
I received a new address 1.2.3.3 but when I configure it in IP Alias(1.2.3.3/255.255.255.0), the firewall stop any functionality (no internet access).

    I'm not really understanding what is not working. Please try to explain better what you're expecting and what you actually get from your configuration.

    I've requested a second IP address to my provider to separe some kind of 'private access' (VPN, test NAT, ecc.) from the official www site.
    I mean our pubblic services www/mail have a pubblic domain name www.abcd.com.  This connection is secured by astaro.
    Now I need to open some routes to the internal/Dmz network (remote access, VPN and other services) but I do not want to 'map' them on a pubblic known domain address, so I requested the second IP.
    My Idea is to access these 'private' services using only the 2. IP address given.

    Hi Gianni,
    you must enter your IP-Alias like 1.2.3.4/255.255.255.255 and not 1.2.3.4/255.255.255.0

    Ok so this is my configuration for the web server aliasing: i think you can reproduce this easily:

    - Web server -
    IP 192.168.9.5 mask 255.255.255.0
    gw 192.168.9.1

    - ASL box -
    in network - interfaces:
    eth0: intern -192.168.9.1 - 255.255.255.0
    eth1: extern - 1.2.3.4 - 255.255.255.0

    alias: webserv - eth1 - 1.2.3.5 - 255.255.255.0
