Syslog to remote server

I tried to set up syslog to send messages to another server by editing /etc/syslog.conf in the normal fashion. The host is listet in /etc/hosts

When I reboot the firewall I get a bunch of rows from the firewall, the last one says ...FreeS/wan started

After that no messages get sent to my syslog server. What am I doing wrong?

I guess the traffic gets stuck in a VPN tunnel somehow ? do you use a VPN connection ?

Hmmm... I just found a problem. The /etc/syslog.conf entry was there after the reboot, but /etc/hosts seems to have been overwritten.

Where can I put host-entries that remain after reboot??
