Video streaming (youtube) extra slow. while speed test shows 50mbps

I have a standard issued att all in one router\wireless\firewall unit. Behind that, I have the UTM 9 running in bridged mode.

For the past 5+ months, I had the firewall on the UTM turned off and everything ran fine. After I enabled the firewall (as well as numerous other IPS type features) everything works fine with the exception of youtube.

Video buffering is very slow. I notice that my UTM is using 68% of 2 gigs of ram at times (could be higher). Is this a performance issue? or are there specific settings I need to look out for to make video streaming more seamless?

  • Try adding some more ram to your UTM. Also with the ATT unit in front you could disable the IPS which will will give you an improved throughput. What sort of CPU do yuo have on your UTM? Going on Williams tests for a single thread you will need a CPU with at least 3ghz for the throughput you are chasing if you leave IPS enabled.

  • I am actually running an atom processor, itx intel board and 2 gigs of ram.

What I ended up doing is disabling country blocking and now speeds are back to normal.
