Download Throttling not working

Hello!

Apparently, my download throttling configuration isn't working properly. I have a bunch of windows client PCs behind the UTM for which I need to limit the download speed to 5Mbps.

My current configuration for traffic selector looks like this:

And the Download Throttling configuration looks like this:

This configuration is not working somehow. However, when I change the service to "Any" in Traffic Selector, I am able to limit the download speed. But not with service set to "Web Surfing". Could you please guide me as to what exactly could be the issue. I have Web Filtering turned on for the clients by the way.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Namaste Prakhar and welcome to the UTM Community!

    Yes, traffic shaping is tricky!

Instead of the "Web Surfing" group in the Traffic Selector, you will want to create a "Web Surfing Responses" group.  For example, "HTTP" is 1:65535->80, so you would add "HTTP Responses" as 80->1:65535.

Next, instead of a Download Throttling rule on the WAN interface, you need a Bandwidth Pool with an upper bandwidth limit on the interface the Windows PCs are on.  You cannot limit the traffic per PC, instead you have to use one limit for all of the Windows PC traffic.

    Any better luck with that?
