UTM 9 Firewall generic rules to allow iPad use

Hi All,

Is there a template to allow outbound traffic for iPad's?  I could not get the updates from the iTunes store till I allowed some tcp and udp ports out.  I do not think this is funny or user friendly.

Thanks,

Joe

  • There isn't any kind of built-in template. It's simply a matter of reviewing your logs for the block, then creating the appropriate exception/whitelist entry to allow the traffic.

For the Firewall, UTM is default block. If you don't make applicable allow rules, traffic cannot get through. For home or small business users, it is recommended to make a rule like Internal Network --> Any --> Internet IPv4, Allow. This will allow most (all is not really all, there are some exceptions) outbound traffic by default. If you attempt to be granular, you will constantly be making new rules for a ton of different apps.  You have to decide, for your environment, whether to have granular outbound control or easy of use.

There are a number of threads on the old astaro.org forum dealing with various apple entries for Web Filtering. Use Google to search.
