Monitor Time/Date user uses Internet

Hello,

We have a client that is using the software UTM and has certain hours that no one should be on the internet in the office.  I know we can block during these hours but the client would rather see who is using during these hours.

I have an iView server and can add this UTM to it but was wondering if there is a way to report what users use the internet during what hours?

    iview doesn't have the ability to filter by time either.  If he wants to know if there is usage during the hours internet is not allowed, you can find it in the web filtering log.

    We realize.  It doesn't currently exist in reporting or iview to query by times, only by day.  You will need to pull this information from the raw logs if you want by times.

    There's several 3rd party solutions for parsing logs from Sophos UTM, that might be able to give you the information that you need.  Google sophos utm reports and a couple will pop up on the first page.  You'll need to contact those companies to see if they can do what you want.  Personally I think it's much less time consuming and a lot less expensive to syslog out the raw data into a database and script my own reports.

    I considered saying this on Monday, but let it go.  I have a philosophical problem with bosses laying traps for employees.  He should either block it or not...

    That said, there's already a simple way to accomplish what he wants, just not in the way he wants to do it.  Create a time-based policy for the time that folks aren't allowed on the Internet and allow everyone to bypass block pages.  If anyone uses the internet, they have to authenticate.  The employees will know not to use the internet unless they have an emergency or a real business need.  Would that work for him?
