Creating a Network Definition

I am trying to create a network definition for akamaihd.net.  When I create it, it shows up as unresolved.  When I look it up at MX Tool Box, I see that there are a dozen domain names.  Do I have to create a network definition for each one?  I want to throttle that website.

Thank you,

John

  • Yes, John, name servers only know how to resolve an FQDN.  An expression like "*.akamaihd.net" has no meaning for DNS.  So, a UTM DNS Group definition requires an FQDN.

    Why throttle that website?

  • I have an employee that I think is streaming radio.  I'll be contacting his supervisor but I would also like to know how to throttle a website like akamaihd.net but still allow others to use it if it has value.

I made a definition for each website that MX Tool Box showed, but that didn't work.  There was over a gig of traffic to that website yesterday.

I checked the web filtering log and I see that he is hitting http://a582.avodsl-s.akamaihd.net and a475.  I assume those websites will change on their own.
