DHCHv6 problem using UTM firewall

Hello,

We (our company) starting testing IPv6 in our internal network. The DHCPv6 service seems to work fine, every client gets an IP address in the specified range.

There is only one problem: two of our HP printers keep requesting a renew even though they already received an IPv6 adres. I'm not sure if it's requesting a new IPv6 adres or other configuration. Using Wireshark I can see the printers request a renew like 50 times a second (both of them).

I contacted HP, but they didn't really understand the problem and told me either static charge or the switch is the problem [:S]

  • If it's the printers requesting the renewals, as you are seeing in the packet capture, not too sure how we can help you UTM side.

    - Assign a static IPv6 IP to each of these two printers
    - See if there's a firmware update available for these printers.

  • I thought so too, untill I tried testing it in a virtual environment using Pfsense for the DHCPv6 service. The strange thing is, it didn't request any renewal. Since it's a completely different environment, I can't say for sure if it's an issue with the UTM firewall.

Also, there's no option to disable DHCPv6 on the printer. When I assign a static IPv6 adres, the DHCPv6 address stays together with the static IP address.

    Thank you.
