Exceed IPs license by PING?

After checking the network via "nmap -A x.y.0.0/16" UTM 9 issues a IP License exceeded warning.

Every of the 64k hosts in this network is now listed in my "used IP-List".

Efficient DOS of the UTM?

  • That licence exceed count would come because the UTM sees everyone of those addresses as using the UTM. You need to change your DHCP server so that you use a different gteway or change your addressing scheme.

  • Hi, this has been reported before and Astaro/Sohpos have said it was fixed.

Please report to your reseller and/or Sophos support.

that's more than just ping, btw.
If you're using the http proxy, that may be what's counting the connections.

  • Barry, they changed it so that you can do an nmap like he did?

  • Hi Bob,

In an older version, I had discovered that running a scan (nmap, etc.) between LAN & DMZ (with no proxy enabled) would cause the license counter to go nuts.
    This was reportedly fixed.

I've seen later reports of users triggering the license count when the http proxy is enabled.
I don't know if that was fixed.

    Barry
