Web Filtering Report to show time/policy

Morning all,

We have differing web filtering policies for in hours and out of hours/lunchtime browsing.

A requirement has arisen from our HR dept to provide a report for particular user(s) based on whether they were in hours or out of hours.

So I either need to figure out how to show what filter was being applied by site for a particular user, or provide the time of day per site for a particular user.

I've not found anything useful in the standard set of reporting features, how would be the best way to get this information.

Neil, maybe HR just needs to understand that certain sites are blocked during work hours. There's no easy way to get the time information out of standard reporting. You would need to invest in a tool that can read the Web Filtering log file and configure it. Any more detail on the question that HR hopes to answer with such a report?

If you are investigating a specific user, this is easy to do via the log files.

View Log Files \ Search Log Files \ Web Filtering.
You can filter for a particular user, limit to timeframe, etc.

The "display in report format" is easy to read, but if you need to know what filter action was applied you'll need to see the raw data.

Also can be done on command line using grep against /var/log/http.log or the archived copies in /var/log/http/
