I have allocated static ipv4 and ipv6 addresses to all of my hosts. Depending on the type of device, I've allocated them in different regions of the subnet. For dynamic ip addresses, does the dhcp allocation range need to be outside the regions where I've allocated the static addresses? Or conversely, is it okay for static ip addresses to be allocated outside of the dhcp allocation range? The reason I ask is because my wireless router (which I'm currently using only as an AP) would not allow a static address to be allocated outside of the dhcp allocation range. I thought that was a bug (or at least it wasn't expected behaviour), accommodated it by opening up the dhcp allocation range assigning static address within the range. I would prefer to allocate dynamic addresses outside the regions of the subnet that I'm using for other hosts so they are more obvious. Does it matter?
