Hello;
I currently have a WLAN setup with a hotspot configured to accept access codes from a pre-configured list of codes.
I have several devices that require permanent access such as iphones and ipads. For this I have created access keys that do not expire exclusively for these devices.
Recently I have extended the wireless network on our downstairs floor with a wireless extender. I run our wireless network with a Linksys AP. My wireless network extender is also a Linksys extender.
My Wireless AP does not have a password on it as I am relying on the hotspot for network access control. The extender links to the wireless AP obviously via a wireless connection then further extends the signal. Devices would connect to the extender, then its broadcast to the AP which access the network. The extender acts as a "middleman" and is supposed to be transparent.
The challenge I am getting is that with the extender on, the iphones keep re-requesting authentication on the hotspot. I suspect this is because the wireless extender's mac address is not identified by the hotspot and therefore when devices try to access the network via the extender the hotspot requires authentication for the extender.
The extender does not provide the opportunity to authenticate on a hotspot, only on the AP device itself.
Is there anyway I can get it to automatically authenticate on the hotspot?
Also, would this cause a security risk whereby unauthenticated devices connected to the "authenticated" wireless extender gain access?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards [:S]
