Is it possible to Ping by hostname only from UTM?

When I log into the UTM and go to Support -> Tools -> Ping Check, is it possible to Ping by the hostname of something inside my network, or do I always need to put hostname.domain.local?  If it's possible to just ping by hostname, what setting am I missing?

    That might be a good Feature Suggestion -  Unlike joining a Windows box to a domain, the UTM doesn't "know" it's a member of the domain that was joined in the AD-SSO configuration.
