Wireless Protection feature

I am running UTM at home and my implementation has now hit section 12 of the manual.

It seems that the "Wireless Protection" features are only applicable if you have a Sophos AP installed?  Is this true or can I also use at least some of the features (such as a Hotspot) using a separate switch/WAP?
